Labadee has been a Royal Caribbean staple for decades, the kind of private beach day cruisers plan entire vacations around. This week, the cruise line confirmed those visits won’t resume anytime soon.

Royal Caribbean extended its cancellation of all Labadee, Haiti visits through June 2027. The decision affects 62 scheduled port calls in just the first half of next year, including stops from the newest Icon Class ships.

Why the cancellation keeps growing. Haiti currently sits at the U.S. State Department’s highest travel warning, Level 4: “Do Not Travel.” That rating reflects ongoing gang violence, kidnapping risk, and political instability that has worsened since 2024. Royal Caribbean first paused Labadee visits as that crisis intensified, and conditions haven’t improved enough to reverse course.

What happens to your itinerary instead. Royal Caribbean isn’t leaving guests without a beach day. Affected sailings are being rerouted to Costa Maya, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; or Grand Cayman. Each destination offers its own version of a private or semi-private island experience, even if it isn’t Labadee’s signature zipline and toboggan run.

Guests already booked for a Labadee stop don’t need to do anything themselves. Royal Caribbean is emailing affected passengers directly, and any Labadee shore excursions get automatically cancelled and refunded.

Why this story matters beyond Royal Caribbean. Labadee has long been one of the most recognizable private destinations in Caribbean cruising. Its extended closure shows just how seriously cruise lines weigh safety over convenience, even when a port is this popular and this profitable.
