Oasis of the Seas is getting a bigger non-smoking casino. The timing tells you something about how much guests have been asking for one. Royal Caribbean confirmed the change this week as part of a wider venue shuffle onboard. The new smoke-free gaming space will take over the area outside Studio B on Deck 4. It’s a noticeably larger footprint than the smaller non-smoking sections scattered across Royal Caribbean’s fleet in recent years. Those earlier spaces often felt like an afterthought squeezed into leftover square footage.

Making room for it means saying goodbye to something else. Blaze, the ship’s longtime nightclub, closed permanently on September 6 to free up the space. Guests who loved Blaze for its late-night dance parties need a new spot now. Royal Caribbean is also shifting other venues around as part of the same project. The Crown Lounge is moving up to Deck 15. That gives it a fresh location once construction wraps.

Not everything on the ship stays open during the work, either. The Teen Lounge will be unavailable from September 10 through October 11 while crews handle construction. Families sailing Oasis during that stretch should expect that space to be closed. Most of the ship will keep operating normally around it, though. The full expanded casino is expected to open around November 9. That timing lines up with when Oasis shifts into short-cruise service out of Fort Lauderdale.

This isn’t happening in isolation. Royal Caribbean has been steadily expanding non-smoking casino space across its fleet for the past few years. Every Oasis-class ship already has some version of a smoke-free gaming area. Icon-class ships launched with similar setups already built in, not added later. What’s happening on Oasis simply takes that existing idea and gives it noticeably more room than earlier versions received.

The reason behind the push is straightforward. Cigarette smoke inside casinos remains one of the most common complaints cruisers bring up about mainstream ships. Guests who don’t smoke often avoid the casino entirely rather than deal with lingering smoke. It drifts through slot machines and table games alike. A larger dedicated non-smoking section gives those guests somewhere to actually gamble without that tradeoff.

Don’t expect Royal Caribbean to go fully smoke-free anytime soon, though. The line has reportedly tested eliminating casino smoking altogether more than once. Each time, gambling revenue dropped noticeably enough to reverse course. Smokers make up a meaningful share of casino spending across the industry, not just on Royal Caribbean. Cruise lines aren’t eager to walk away from that money voluntarily. The compromise, at least for now, is bigger non-smoking sections alongside a smoking casino that stays open.

Passenger reaction so far leans positive, even if it isn’t universal. Plenty of guests have welcomed the expansion. Many have complained for years about smoke drifting well beyond designated areas. Others think Royal Caribbean has the ratio backward, though. Since smokers are the minority on most sailings, some argue the smaller space should go to them instead. There’s also a recurring complaint about smokers lingering in non-smoking sections anyway. They sit in seats without actually playing, even though the rules call for active play only.

For anyone booking Oasis of the Seas this fall, the venue changes are worth factoring into travel plans. A cruise between now and early November means missing the Teen Lounge for part of that window. It also means skipping Blaze entirely, since that closure is permanent. Sailings from November 9 onward should get the full picture instead. That’s a real destination for non-smoking gamblers this time. It sits right alongside Oasis-class favorites that aren’t changing at all, from the AquaTheater to the Boardwalk.
