Florida cruisers have a genuinely refreshed mega-ship waiting for them again. The Harmony of the Seas Port Canaveral return marks the end of a comprehensive Royal Amplified refurbishment, bringing the Oasis-class ship back to Central Florida with new dining venues, expanded gaming, and nearly 100 additional staterooms.
Harmony spent several weeks in drydock at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain, undergoing a multimillion-dollar transformation before completing a spring Mediterranean season out of Barcelona. Now, as August arrives, the 227,625-ton vessel has repositioned to Port Canaveral, ready to sail two- to seven-night Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries, including stops at Royal Caribbean’s beloved private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
The refurbishment touched nearly every corner of the ship. Post-refurbishment reporting indicates roughly 91 to 105 new staterooms were added, a mix of inside, oceanview, balcony, and suite categories built by repurposing existing public spaces. Most of the new inside cabins replaced the ship’s former Conference Center on Deck 3, while additional inside and balcony cabins now occupy space once used by the Wonderland restaurant, part of the Adventure Ocean kids’ club, and the previous Solarium sundeck. Two adjacent Crown Loft Suites on Deck 17 were even combined into a single, larger Duplex Suite.
Dining sees some of the most exciting changes. Samba Grill Brazilian Steakhouse brings carved meats and traditional Brazilian flavors to the ship as a new specialty venue, while El Loco Fresh replaces the former Sabor Mexican restaurant space with complimentary, casual Mexican fare. Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade takes over that same general area too, blending game-day dining with classic arcade entertainment like Pac-Man and Skee-Ball, giving families and sports fans alike a genuinely new hangout spot.
The bar scene got a refresh as well. The former Bionic Bar, known for its robotic bartenders, has been replaced by the Pesky Parrot, a colorful tiki-style bar that debuted first on Utopia of the Seas and brings human bartenders and a livelier social atmosphere in its place. Poolside, guests will now find three separate Lime & Coconut bar locations spread around a completely reimagined Caribbean-inspired pool deck, featuring brighter décor and new furnishings, though the ship’s existing pools, Splashaway Bay, and Perfect Storm waterslides remain unchanged from before.
Casino Royale received a significant expansion too, growing into the largest gaming facility across Royal Caribbean’s entire fleet. That expansion came at the cost of a few previous venues, including the former Attic comedy club, with comedy and variety acts now relocating to the Royal Theater instead. The Crown Lounge also moved from Deck 4 up to Deck 15, taking over space previously used for part of the ship’s teen area.
For guests who’ve sailed Harmony before, it’s worth knowing that not every original cabin received a full renovation as part of this project. The refurbishment focused primarily on adding new inventory and refreshing public spaces rather than touching every existing stateroom throughout the ship.
For Central Florida cruisers and anyone flying into Orlando for a quick, convenient getaway, Harmony’s return to Port Canaveral means one of Royal Caribbean’s largest and most amenity-packed ships is once again sailing regularly from a homeport that’s easy to reach without extensive travel logistics. Between the new dining lineup, the expanded casino, and a genuinely refreshed pool deck atmosphere, returning Harmony guests will notice meaningful changes throughout the ship, even if their favorite original features remain right where they left them.
