What Find My Kid Actually Does
Find My Kid is a location-tracking feature built into the Royal Caribbean app. It works together with a special wearable called the Adventure Ocean WOW Band. Once set up, parents can open the app and see their child’s general location on interactive deck maps, whether that’s in a public area or near your stateroom.
The feature launched as a pilot on Icon of the Seas back in 2024. It expanded to Star of the Seas in 2025. Now, as of this month, Royal Caribbean has rolled it out to Legend of the Seas as well. That makes all three Icon-class ships eligible, giving families sailing the newest and largest ships in the fleet access to this extra layer of reassurance.
How to Set It Up
Getting started takes a few simple steps. First, register your child for Adventure Ocean, Royal Caribbean’s free youth program. Second, purchase an Adventure Ocean WOW Band, which costs $14.99. Third, sign up for Find My Kid directly through the Royal Caribbean app once you’re onboard.
Here’s some good news for your wallet. No internet package is required to use the feature. You only need to be connected to the ship’s WiFi network, which is available throughout public areas and staterooms at no extra cost.
Who It’s Designed For
Find My Kid works for children ages 3 to 12. That age range matters, since kids in this bracket typically don’t carry their own phones and can’t easily message parents if they get separated. Teens 13 and older already have chat access through the Royal Caribbean app, so the tracking feature focuses specifically on younger children who need it most.
Parents also control who else can see the tracking information. If grandparents or an older sibling are traveling along, you can grant them access too, making it easier for the whole family to help keep tabs on the youngest cruisers.
More Than Just a Tracker
The WOW Band itself pulls extra weight beyond location tracking. It’s waterproof, so kids can wear it at the pool or waterpark without issue. It also functions as a stateroom key, letting kids unlock the door without carrying a card. Parents can even authorize limited onboard purchases through the band, and it displays muster station information in case of an emergency drill.
The reusable design is a nice bonus too. If your family sails Royal Caribbean again in the future, you won’t need to buy a new WOW Band, as long as it survives the trip home in a suitcase somewhere.
Worth Keeping in Mind
Royal Caribbean has been clear that Find My Kid isn’t a substitute for actual supervision. It’s meant to add convenience and peace of mind, not replace parental awareness.
