The Road to July 4
Legend of the Seas had a journey to get here that only added to the anticipation. Royal Caribbean originally scheduled the ship’s debut for August 2, 2026. Then construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland moved so far ahead of schedule that the line pulled the date forward to July 11. Then they pulled it forward again — adding a brand-new July 4 inaugural sailing that nobody had on their radar. Three schedule advances. Each one driven by a shipyard simply outpacing its own timeline. Royal Caribbean officially took delivery of the ship on June 10, and the vessel arrived in Málaga, Spain just days later, ready for action.
Where She’s Headed First
Tomorrow’s maiden voyage runs seven nights roundtrip from Rome. Guests wake up in the Mediterranean and spend the week exploring some of Europe’s finest ports. The itinerary calls at La Spezia, Italy — the gateway to Florence and the Cinque Terre. Next comes Palma de Mallorca, sun-soaked and beautiful in the heart of the Balearic Islands. Then Barcelona, one of the world’s great cities. Then Marseille, the historic heart of the French Riviera. Two sea days round out the journey before returning to Rome on July 11. For a first voyage, it’s a genuinely spectacular route.
What Makes Legend Different from Her Sisters
Legend of the Seas is the first Icon-class ship to spend its maiden season in Europe. Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas both launched in the Caribbean. That alone makes this ship historically significant within the class. At approximately 250,800 gross tons, she also edges out her sisters to claim the title of world’s largest cruise ship — by about a foot in length. Small margin, big bragging rights.
Beyond the records, Legend brings some genuinely new additions. America’s Got Talent LIVE makes its cruise debut on board — a full stage production bringing the energy of the TV franchise to sea. New dining concepts include Royal Railway: Legend Station, a five-course immersive train-themed dining experience inspired by the ancient Silk Routes, and the Hollywoodland Supper Club, a Hollywood golden-age dinner show. Both are exclusive to Legend and not found on any other ship in the fleet.
The signature Icon-class features return too — seven pools, Crown’s Edge, the AquaDome, Category 6 waterpark, Ultimate Family Townhouse, Surfside neighborhood, Royal Bay pool, the Hideaway, and more than 40 dining and bar venues.
What Comes Next
After a summer of seven-night Western Mediterranean sailings from both Rome and Barcelona, Legend crosses the Atlantic on October 25. She repositions to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on a 13-night transatlantic voyage. From November, she sails six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean itineraries — both new route lengths for the Icon class. Nearly every sailing stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay.
